Black Iris

Black Iris is a band that infuses alternative/indie rock and hip hop. It is the brainchild of Lamar “Prophecy” Woods and Nico Matthews. The two met in college while studying music at Georgia State University in downtown Atlanta. Woods was a proponent of hip hop and frequently explored the worlds of blues, punk and alternative rock. On the other hand, Matthews was an advocate of both punk rock and hip hop. The two instantly meshed together well and started writing songs. Woods was in charge of the lead vocals and vocal arrangements, while Matthews took care of all instrumentation and production. The two started by playing open mics in Little Five Points area of Atlanta. At time passed, the two decided they needed a full band to play behind them. They started to recruit other talented local musicians which included David L., Ron Saforo, Curtis Dro Jacob Finch and Kristina P. The band recorded a slew of songs and released their first EP, "Prophecy".
